GI Bill Approved for Vocational Maritime Training

Prior Military Service | Post 9/11 GI Bill now for Maritime Training

Sea going service gained while in the military CAN BE used to qualify for U.S. Coast Guard Licenses and endorsements to your Merchant Marine Credentials (MMC). Don’t wait too long there is a short window to covert your militaryy time. There are many opportunities for veterans to work as a merchant marine. As a veteran your sea-service and job specialty, rating or Officer’s position while aboard ship all has a specific value assigned by the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center. 

The Code of Federal Regulations spell out exactly what military service counts towards maritime credentials, licenses and endorsements.

**There is also a new Coast Guard Policy that helps those with deck servise to qualify as a Merchant Marine Officer. CG-543 Policy Letter 11-07 allows the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and those authorized to sign of Officer of the Deck PQS’ to sign off the Assessments of Competence required for OICNW. **
