Thanks for visiting our site.

You can start working in any of the different sectors of the maritime industry.

Ocean-going tugboats and Transportation/Towing companies are in any major port around the USA ands the world.

OffShore Supply vessels in the Gulf of Mexico, These US fleets are concentrated in the Louisina and Texas coast ports.

Do internet search engine searches for the following adwords; maritime jobs, tugboat jobs, Cruise ship jobs, Oilrig jobs, etc., and then search any and all shipping, towing and OSV company websites for their employment linkss.
Links to shipping companies may be found at:

www.omsa.org
www.workboat.com
www.pva.org
www.captain.com had links to over 600 shipping companies posted in their employment blog page.

The easiest way to get a foot in the door is to know someone in the industry or who is employed with the company you wan to work for.

It is also important that you have the correct training and certifications to ensure that you qualify for the jobs that you are applying for. By viewing the on-line employment ads, you will be able to see what requirements each employer has. REMEMBER-- Each company normally specializes in one or two sections of the marine industry, so take a close look at each sections requirements to give yourself a better opportunity to get that interview and that job!

The website www.uscg.mil/nmc has serious amounts of credential, endorsements and licensing information. The hard art is working through aal the info. Feel free to contact me if you need help with any part of this process.

Most of the Ocean-going Merchant Ships, i.e. Container Ships, Tankers, Military Sealift Command, etc., are Union-manned and will require you to join their union.

But: Most OSV, Tugboat, and Towboat Compnies in the Gulf of Mexico Region and the Western Rivers Systems of the USA are not union manned, and will not hire union mariners as a general rule.

Take a look on Google for the following sites:
Seafarers International Union (SIU).
Marine Engineers Benevolent Association (MEBA).
Seafarer' Union of the Pacific
American MerchantOfficers Orgganization
International Organization of Master, Mates and Pilots
